We have been promising Emma to take her to see "the mountain house" (Grandma Debbie and Grandpa Tom's little house in Summit County) all summer. We finally made it this weekend. For those not from here, Summit County is where a lot of the ski areas are in Colorado. We all had a great time! (Warning - long post with lots of photos.)
Emma checking out the loft. She declared she would sleep there and moved all her toys up.
The back swing
The chipmunk who lives under the shed. It looks "Just like Pip" Emma decided (from Enchanted, if you don't speak 5-year-old girl)
Emma playing with the pretend well out front
Ice cream in Breckenridge after dinner ![]()
Also in Breckenridge. You'd think Beau had been gone for hours instead of 2 minutes.
Book before bed in the loft. Emma tried to sleep up there but by 11, she had moved down to the front room, closer to us. ![]()
Saturday we went for a hike. It was supposed to be a short climb but we misjudged the distance to park on the (very) 4WD road. Emma ended up trekking for a lot more than we planned but she did awesome (with frequent breaks on the many steep hills, of course).
Looking for wildflowers
Snow!
Waterfall by the trail
Peanut butter break
The steep part-much steeper than it appears
We made it! Lunch at Mayflower Lake

Yes, that is treeline and snow on top
This is an old mining area. This sluice was at the top of the mountain (previous photo) on top of the huge waterfall
Stick wars. Emma kept getting bigger and bigger sticks trying to find one that wouldn't break. Then she picked up this one! Game over.
These were old mining or logging cabins. There were a lot of them near the lake.
Ready to head down.
Saturday night, we had dinner in Breckenridge and then went to the symphony. We had some downtime before the symphony, so we went to this really cool toy store.
And Emma practiced her cartwheels on the grass.

And they found this cool flat rock out on the river
Showing Mom the merits of the flat rock. "You could have a picnic here!"
Emma's first symphony. They did an amazing Mozart piano concerto which we all loved (and Thithith danced to) then some really mediocre Copeland (the orchestra was fine. The piece just wasn't good). We bailed on the end of the Copeland since it was really late and it just couldn't compare.
On Sunday we drove up Shrine Pass to look at wildflowers. The flowers were great but it was really hazy because of the California fires so no decent scenics (plus it was midday).
This was a cool green paintbrush. I don't know that I have ever seen green before.
